Obituary Overview
Gerald Andrew Dobson
Jerry was born in Toronto, Ontario where he grew up with his 2 sisters, Bonnie and Margo. In the late 50’s he met and married Joan Ball. They had 3 children John, Frank and Sally. In 1977 he moved his family to Edmonton, Alberta to start a new life. He was a loving and caring father who would never let his children go without.
On July 21, 1984 he started a new chapter of his life of Sobriety. Jerry was 34 years sober and never stopped doing daily random acts of kindness and helping countless people with their addictions.
On January 9, 2007 on a cruel winter day he lost his loving and supportive wife Joan. This could have broken him but after a brief period of mourning he became a stronger and more generous person and would help anyone in need. He formed strong bonds with a lot of people including a new son (Mel) within the AA fellowship.
Jerry loved his grandchildren, Shanon, Sarah, Samantha, and all his great grandchildren.
He leaves to mourn his son John (Bev Dobson), Frank (Hanna Dobson), Sally (Dave Stephen), 3 granddaughters, and 6 great grandchildren.
The Serenity Prayer
God grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference.
A celebration of Life will be held between 1 pm – 4 pm on Saturday, August 18, at the Strathcona Baptist Church, 8318 104 Street, Edmonton.
