George Harlin Cluett Linton 19362018

George Harlin Cluett Linton
1936-2018
It is with deep sadness that the family of George Harlin
Cluett Linton announces his passing at Hospice House on Sunday,
October 21st, 2018. Born in Boston, MA on January 16th, 1936, he was
the husband of Jo-Anne Linton of 15 years. He spent his final hours
surrounded by family at his side, passing in the graceful manner in
which he did all things, under the tremendous care of Hospice staff
subsequent to the wonderful care he received from doctors and staff at
ICU and 4SW at the DECH. A particular expression of appreciation is
extended to Angie, and the exceptional Extramural staff who
compassionately cared for George for the past few
months.
In addition to his wife, George is survived by his sons
William (Linda) of Bend, Oregon; Jeffrey (Danielle) of Wilton, New
Hampshire, and daughter Cynthia Michaud (Peter) of Merrimack, NH, and
their loving mother Sandra, George’s first wife. George was
proud to be Grandpa to his six grandchildren, all of whom he cherished
deeply, Joshua, Tia, Caitlin, Aja, Saul and Phillip. Also survived by
Jo-Anne’s daughters Ashley Briggs (Jason) of Australia, and
Keely Briggs of Victoria, BC., sister-in-law Margaret (Stu) Reid of
Sidney, BC, and brother-in-law Joe (Sherry) Nesbitt of Brentwood Bay,
BC, and their family members, including Ryan, Ali, Alex and Jack Reid
and Sue Sirr, of Fredericton, with whom he spent many happy
times.
Predeceased by his parents, George and Pricilla Linton,
George was proud to carry on their legacy in his role as a loving
partner, parent, grandparent, and friend to many. The heaviness of
George’s passing is lifted only by the assurance that he is
now in God’s loving embrace with his parents, special Aunt
Eleanor, Jo-Anne’s parents Carl and Flora Nesbitt of
Brockville, ON, sister and brother-in-law Sandra and Bill Stevens of
Gananoque, ON and their surviving family, and special friends who have
passed on before him.
George graduated from Lowell University Massachusetts with a
degree in Electronics Engineering and worked for BAE Systems Inc.
(formerly Sanders) in Nashua and Hudson, NH, enjoying a 42-year career
with that company and the extensive travel it took him around the
world before retiring in 1997.
In the 1970’s, George was invited by a friend from
New Hampshire to go salmon fishing on the Miramichi River, thus his
love of the sport began. His new-found interest allowed him the
opportunity to come to Canada often, enjoying his time as a member of
the Miramichi Angling Association in Doaktown among the many friends
he made both at the club and on the river. During his working years,
he would leave the office to drive all night, to be on the river first
thing in the morning. His love of the sport continued into retirement,
and was happy that he could spend even more time on the river he
loved, as well as occasional trips to Awesome Lake in Labrador for
trout fishing. In fact, it was his connection with angling that he met
his wife-to-be, Jo-Anne, in 2002 while at a fundraising event in
support of salmon conservation. After marrying a year later, they made
their new life together in Fredericton, with one close friend often
stating that « Canada was a better place with George Linton in
it ».
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish
(Hanwell Road, Fredericton) with Father Monte Peters officiating, on
Saturday, October 27th at 11:00 am. A private family interment will be
held at a later time.
McAdam’s Funeral Home has been entrusted with the
arrangements. In lieu of flowers, a gesture of kindness to another
person in George’s memory would be appreciated by the
family, or donations can be made to Hospice House, Miramichi Salmon
Association, Multiple Sclerosis Society, or a charity of the
donor’s choice.
