It is with great sadness that we announce the
passing of Garry Sacobie of Kingsclear First Nation at Hospice
Fredericton on December 13, 2018. He was the son of the late William
Joseph and Marie Theresa (Polchies)
Sacobie.
Garry was a resilient man who had many
accomplishments in his lifetime. He was a proud Wolastoqey
(Maliseet) man and was especially proud of the creation of the First
Nation Caring society, birthed at a conference in Kingsclear with his
dear friend Cindy Blackstock. He ran many initiatives to serve his
community; he was a previous community politician, he held national
child welfare conferences, he served as the director of social work
and in the drug and alcohol department in his community of Kingsclear
First Nation for years. He was a proud St. Thomas University graduate
and believed in the power of education for liberation. He was
instrumental in the progress of the new fire station being built in
Kingsclear and was fire chief for many years. He was a
certified pyro-technician and loved to put on firework shows for
Kingsclear and all surrounding areas as he loved to bring joy to
others and to celebrate. He loved softball, hunting, fishing, darts,
pool, curling, horse racing, and was an avid
golfer.
Garry will be deeply missed by his loving wife,
his « moshun » (heart) of 45 years Sarah Ann
Sacobie. Their children; Anthony Joseph (Christa), Michelle
Marie (Greg Gruben), Shirley Lynn (Anthony Cormier), Korleen Peters
(Corey), Arthur Sacobie, Jorja-Sarah Sacobie and Dante Charles
Sacobie. He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren Tanisha
Sacobie-Gruben (Matthew Comeau), Keyaira, Justice and Ahnour. In total
he had 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and several brothers
and sisters; Glen (Annie), Sheila (Randy), Cheryl, Karen (Francis),
Paul and Laurie. A special adopted grandchild Charlee Paul (Shawn
Narvey) as well and several cousins, nieces and
nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother Frederick (Liz
Sacobie), a sister Anita Sacobie, and a special brother Rodney
Sacobie.
He will be resting on Monday December 17th
starting at 11am at the Kingsclear First Nation Training
Center. A Funeral Mass will be held at the St. Annes Roman
Catholic Church in Kingsclear First Nation on Tuesday December 18 at
11am with Father Monte Peters and Father Curtis Sappier
officiating.
For those who wish, the family suggests
memorials to Hospice House or to go towards cancer
research.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Garry Sacobie 19492018..
