Gail Klotz 2018

Gail Klotz
May 15, 1947 – July 26, 2018

Gail is survived by her loving husband and constant companion Dennis; her two children Devon (Scharah) and Dawnys (David); step-children Shelly (Tim), and Brad (Catrina), 10 grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Chelsey, Jackson, Chase, Keiran, Jake, Brody, Torin, Emma, Saige and Ember; her 4 siblings Dale (Blancha), Dallas (Dennis), Sherry (David), and Bobbi; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband Mervin Lay, both her parents, and one nephew.

Gail was born Edwina Gail Byman in Smithers, BC, the oldest of 5 children. She cherished memories of growing up in Perow and Quesnel as part of an active, hospitable family. Gail was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and increased her own faith throughout her life while sharing it with others.

In 1963 Gail married Mervin Lay. Two children followed, Devon in 1964 and Dawnys in 1971. Living in Quesnel and then Burnaby, the Lays kept busy with their spiritual routine, caring for family, work, travelling, and enjoying time with friends.

Gail was tragically widowed in 1993. She handled this sad event with her trademark dignity and grace, wanting her children to be proud of her heritage.

In 1997 Gail married Dennis Klotz, a man with the qualities that were so important to her, including kindness, spirituality, and a sense of humor. Dennis and Gail lived in Sundre, Drayton Valley, and most recently Lacombe. In every place they lived, they made lifelong friends and contributed greatly to their community and congregation. Gail and Dennis loved to travel, camp, visit others, and go in the ministry together.

Gail and Dennis celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary in Yuma, Arizona last winter, surrounded by love, laughter, family, friends and memories.

Gail was a true beauty inside and out. Her sparkling blue eyes and ever-present smile reflected her love for God, family, friends and the people she met in her life and ministry. She had outstanding dignity, grace and respect for others – qualities that were noticed and admired by all who knew her. Gail had a knack for paying attention to people, and she often had a thoughtful, fitting gift for someone in need or her family and friends. Gail was classy and elegant, yet fun and down-to-earth. She could always spot a bargain and would take a camping trip over a 5-star hotel, but her perfume and makeup were always on, and she would usually be wearing or carrying something that sparkled. Most importantly, her love for Jehovah, her hope for the future, and her respect for all other people shone through.

Gail’s presence will be deeply missed by each person that knew her. We look forward to seeing her again, when some of her well-loved scriptures are fulfilled:

(Job 14:15) « You will call, and I will answer you. You will long for the work of your hands. »

(Psalm 37:29) « The righteous will possess the earth, And they will live forever on it. »

(Revelation 21:4) « And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away. »

(John 5:28, 29) « The hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out. »

A Memorial Service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 4, 2018, at the Lacombe Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 4521 46 Avenue, with Grant Chapman officiating. A tea follows at the Best Western Plus Lacombe Inn and Suites, 4751 63 Street.

Gail’s family would like to thank Dr. Matt Unger and the nurses in Unit B at the Lacombe Hospital for their attentive and compassionate care
