Forever In Our Hearts
Howell, Frederick “Fred” Edgar. It is with great sadness our family announces that Fred peacefully passed away at Millennium Trail Manor in Niagara Falls on May 7th, 2018 in his 96th year, with his family by his side. Our family takes great comfort in knowing that our dad has been rejoined with our mom Norma (Egerter) who passed away in 1994. Fred will be missed by his second wife Margaret (Learn). Dad’s legacy will live on in the hearts of his children Jackie (Jerry) Smith, Joyce (David) Butler, Linda Holmes and Jerry Howell. Step father to Donna (Jim) Roszell and step father in law of Jim Cox. Fred was blessed with 8 grandchildren; Allison(Albert), Liam (Evan), Elizabeth (Rich), Angela (Hasan), Laura, Stewart, Curtis, Sam and 10 great-grandchildren. Fred will also be remembered by his 4 step-grandchildren; Karen (Chris), Heather (Chris),Lenora (Shane),Owen (Valerie) and 6 great step-grandchildren. Dear brother in law of Barbara Egerter. Fred is predeceased by his parents Vernon and Marjory Howell, and sister Eleanor (Eric) Meech and brother-in-law Ross Egerter, and sister-in-law Betty (Bill) Brillon. Fred spent his life dedicated to his family and farm. His farming career started on his parent’s dairy farm, Pinecroft Dairy at the age of 6. He began chicken farming in 1935 ultimately starting his own chicken farm 20 years later in 1955, in 1969 he added pigs to the farm. He was fortunate and proud to have lived on his farm into his 90’s. He was a longtime member of the St John’s Volunteer Fire Department, the Fonthill Baptist Church, Niagara South Federation of Agriculture and a member of Rare Breeds of Canada. In Fred’s retirement years, he had a passion for raising rare breed sheep, he also started a nut tree orchard and turned beautiful wooden bowls on his lathe. The family would like to thank all the staff at Millennium Trail Manor for the wonderful care, compassion, love and support they showed Fred and our family. Family invites family and friends to Pleasantview Funeral Home for visitation on Thursday May 10th, 2018 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. A funeral service celebrating Fred’s life will take place in the funeral home chapel on Friday May 11th at 11 am. Interment to follow at Fonthill Cemetery.
