Obituary for
Evaldo Gerardo Tonn
With sad hearts, the family of Evaldo Gerardo Tonn announces his passing on Christmas Day, 2018. Evaldo was born and raised in Argentina and in his heart, it was always home. He immigrated to Canada with his family in 1972 and was a proud Canadian citizen.
Evaldo was a passionate man. He loved to cook and feed people. Both friends and strangers were welcome at his table. He loved to BBQ, especially ribs, and was forever in search of the bigger and better grilling machine. Evaldo loved his family and always put them before himself. If you were lucky enough to be considered family, he was fiercely loyal and protective. Soccer, mariachi music, and Malbec were also among his passions.
Evaldo supported his family as a long-haul trucker. He was born to truck and the longer the haul, the better. He remembered the details of every load he ever hauled and was always ready with a “trucker story” or two. Evaldo had no hidden agendas. He spoke his mind and you always knew where you stood with him.
Evaldo was also a man of faith. He had a deeply personal relationship with God and trusted Jesus Christ as his Saviour and Lord. Evaldo took seriously the commandment to love justice and show mercy and found ways to enact that both on and off the road.
Evaldo will be mourned and missed by his wife Ruth; sons Claudio (Amanda) and Mark; grandson Trystan; brother Alberto (Sylvia), nephews Derek and Rolando; nieces Marlene and Rosemarie; along with Ruth’s extended family whom he had adopted as his own. Donations in honour of Evaldo may be made to Compassion Canada, TREY Nova Scotia or your local church in support of mission projects.
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, January 3, 2019 at 3pm in First Baptist Church, 759 Prince Street, Truro. Rev. Paul Worden officiating. Online condolences are available by visiting: www.ColchesterCommunity.com
