Essie Mae (Pushie) Chinn
1940-2018
Chinn, Essie Mae, age 77, of Addington Forks passed away at
in the wonderful Palliative Care Unit of St. Martha’s
Regional Hospital, Antigonish, on July 21, 2018, after a courageous
battle with multiple myeloma.
Born at her home in West River/Addington Forks, Essie was the
eldest of four daughters of the late Charles and Bella (Bayne)
Pushie.
She was educated at St. Andrew’s Rural High School and
graduated as a CNA from Camphill Hospital School of Nursing,
Halifax. She worked at Deer Lodge Hospital in Winnipeg and
later at the N.S. Hospital and Children’s Hospital in
Halifax.
On June 13, 1964 she married the love of her life, Kenneth
John Chinn. Being very family oriented, Essie made a
wonderful wife, mother, grandma, and sister. She was the
best! She always believed that for every problem there was a
solution. Essie’s faith in God, her belief in heavenly and
earth angels, and the power of prayer definitely helped pull her
through any situation that circumstances of life threw her
way. She was an avid lover of nature.
Her interests included art, oil, water color and acrylic painting,
sewing, swimming, flower gardening, and in her day she did her share
of fishing. She especially loved dogs. With Ken by her side,
they enjoyed dancing and in the later years modern square dancing with
The Maple Leaf Whirl-Aways Square Dance Club. Essie also loved to go
to flea markets and yard sales, but she especially cherished time
spend with family and loved ones.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth John Chinn;
daughters, Valerie (Joseph Delorey), Ontario; Jacqueline Holly (Gordon
Bell), Halifax; grandson, Kenneth Delorey, who was the joy of her
life; Godchild, Bryan Leslie Kennedy, Antigonish; brother, Gordon
(Teresa) Pushie, Antigonish; sisters: Robina Casson, Alta; Isabel
Drake, Antigonish, and Sandra Kennedy, Antigonish; sister-in-law,
Joyce Warnell, B.C.; brother in law; Wilfred Henley,
Halifax.
She was predeceased by brothers, William John (Esther Finnie)
and Charles Melville Pushie; brothers-in-law, Winston and Reggie
Chinn, Gerald Kennedy; and sister-in-law, June Henley.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be in
