OBITUARY
Erva Monica Shaw
August 8, 1924 – October 25, 2018
It is with sadness, love and many fond memories that we announce the peaceful passing of Erva Monica Shaw (nee Hunter), at the age of 94. Erva was born in Halifax on August 8, 1924 and was a daughter of Roy and Mary Hunter of Jollimore.
She was predeceased by her husband, Stephen Shaw, her brother, Rawley and sisters Marjorie, Thelma and Elaine and a brother in infancy. She is survived by her sister, Ruth Pace and her children, Christa Cook (Ernest), Hunter Shaw (Helen), Sylvia Logan (Carl), Tony Shaw and former daughter-in-law, Julie Vaughan Shaw. She is also survived by ten grandchildren; Matthew, Teri, Hunter Michael, Shannon, Stephanie, Elizabeth, Jonathan, Katherine, Anthony and Natalie and seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Erva lived most of her life in Jollimore and she spent her final eight years as a resident of Shannex Arborstone Enhanced Care where she was cared for with kindness and compassion by a wonderful staff.
In her younger years, Erva taught many of the children of Jollimore how to swim as she loved to visit Williams Lake. She was a long-time member of St. John the Baptist Parish where she served in several ministries. She also spent a number of years as a volunteer at BirthRight. Erva was a homemaker and she loved her home and community where she was frequently seen on her daily walks and was known for her cheerful and friendly demeanor.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Snow’s Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive. Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 30, from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 31, at 11:00 am at St. John the Baptist Church, Purcell’s Cove Road, Halifax, with Reverend Raymond Odumuko officiating. Reception to follow in church hall. Burial will be at a later date. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society, the World Wildlife Fund or a charity of your choice.
