It is with great sadness that we, the family of Ernest MacDonald announce his sudden passing on June 5th 2018
He was the a of Ernest Coady MacDonald and Margaret Anne O’Rourke
Ernest was a member of the Black Watch, and the Royal Canadian Artillery. Ernest worked hard for local hospitals, loved his Maple Leafs, playing baseball and was passionate about darts. He was a long-time member of Club 55 and the Pensioner’s Club, where he cultivated many friendships. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and revelling in their many successes. This gave him tremendous joy!
He is survived by his wife, his best friend of 62 years and life partner Ella MacDonald (Chipman), his daughter Donna (Douglas) Ormond, and his sons Ernest (Karen) and Jim (Angela). Also survived by his 5 grandchildren Geoffrey, Janelle, Amanda, Darrell and Justin, and 3 great grandchildren Hailey, Grayson and Peyton. He leaves behind his now sole-surviving sibling Jim O’Rourke (Cathy) and their children Krista Sullivan and Sean and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his adopted father Jim O’Rourke, his sisters Margaret Scott MacDonald and Marilyn Roach (Bourson), his brothers Darrell O’Rourke, Donnie and Lorne Roach.
Visitation for Ernest will take place Monday, June 11th from 2-4 and 7-9pm at Chant’s Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra Street, Sydney. A celebration of his life will take place the following day, Tuesday at 1pm in the funeral home Chapel. Rev. Sheldon Chant to officiate.
The family is heartbroken at this loss but in lieu of flowers, we would appreciate donations to be made to the Heart and Stroke foundation.
