Obituary for
Ernest Alfred Fournier
It is with great sadness that the family announces the death of Ernest (Ernie) Fournier. Ernie passed away peacefully on Friday, Dec. 14, at the Temiskaming Lodge in Haileybury, with loving family by his side. Ernest Alfred Fournier was born in New Liskeard on May 8, 1932, to the late Alfred Fournier and Yvonne Chouinard.
He is survived by his daughter, Brenda (Al) Dobbs, and his five step-children: MaryLou McIntee, Randy McIntee, Beverly (Bill) Early, John McIntee and Patricia Armstrong. Also left to mourn his passing are his siblings Rita Mawhiney and John (Marlene) Fournier as well as his daughter-in-law, Sue Fournier, his brother-in-law Doug Olsen and sister-in-law JoAnne Fournier. He was the cherished Grampa of many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loving uncle of numerous nieces and nephews. Ernie was predeceased by his 1st wife Mary Lou Stenabaugh in 1979 and his 2nd wife Susie (Ruth) McIntee in 2018, his son Robert in 2015 and siblings Alcide, Therese, Leonard, Jeanne, Jean, Cecile and Rene (Ray). Ernie was the proud owner of Fournier’s Texaco in Haileybury for many years and, as a result, was known by a great many people in and around the area. In his spare time, which he had little of before retirement, he enjoyed camping and fishing. After he retired, he took pride in his flower beds and vegetable garden, one year planting his tomatoes 3 times. He never turned down a chance to barbecue – he was known to shovel a pathway to his barbecue after a New Year’s Eve party to grill steaks for fellow revelers. He loved a good game of euchre when friends or family dropped by. Ernie also loved to tinker, spending hours in his garage fixing things. He had a very dry sense of humour. A Celebration of Life will be held at Our Mother of Perpetual Help Parish on Friday, Dec. 21st, at 11:00 a.m., Father Wayne Mills officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Beverly-Ann Boros Palliative Care Suite, the Temiskaming Hospital CAT Scan Foundation or The Lodge Volunteer Auxiliary, or any local charity, will be gratefully acknowledged.
