Erika Helene Schmidt – of Hamilton, ON, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, including the last 9-months at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Erika passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, at St. Peter’s on Thursday, August 30 2018 at the age of 70. Erika was the loving wife and soulmate of Franz Schmidt, loving mother of Martin (Annette) and Ralph “Phi” (Unity Jessy), and loving and cherished grandmother of Riven and Sativa. Erika was a loved member and manager of Christian Horizons, dedicated to her work with a servant’s heart. Erika was thought of as a ‘mother’, ‘Oma’, and ‘friend’ to everyone who was blessed to know her. Erika loved music and singing, hearts and chickens, visits to Confederation Park with Franz and her family, and she was a woman of God. Her journey of kindness, compassion and wisdom is a testimony to her character. Erika leaves behind a legacy of love and will live on within all of our hearts. Thank you for the music Mama Oma. The family thanks each visitor and loving messages of gratitude and farewell blessings during these past challenging months. Erika we thank you for a life of loving integrity and your wisdom to, “Dare to be different.” We will find you in the signs you share, and the hearts you left behind will continue to beat with love for you.Visitation at Bay Gardens Funeral Home, 947 Rymal Road, East, Hamilton, (905.547.0405) on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 from 1-3 pm & 6-8 pm . A Celebration of Erika’s life will be held at Bay Gardens Funeral Home – Chapel, on Thursday, September 6, 2018, at 1 pm.
