He will also be dearly missed by his extended family in the Philippines, Virginia, USA, as well as family and long-time friends in Calgary and Vancouver, and his co-workers. Emory is predeceased by his parents Mariano and Purificacion, his brothers Drs .Oscar and Florante and sister, Daisy.
Emory was born on July 2, 1947 in Natividad, Pangasinan, Philippines. He and his siblings, Oscar, Florante, and Daisy, were raised by their father Mariano, a district agriculturalist, and mother, Purificacion, a housewife. With his father hoping he would follow in his footsteps, Emory enrolled at the College of Agriculture. Instead, he would later graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology at Centro Escolar University in the Philippines in 1969. In 1970, he migrated to Canada where he worked as a medical technician in Alberta at Coaldale Community Hospital and at Claresholm Hospital. He then ventured to North Battleford, Saskatchewan for work. While there, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. In the 80’s, Emory decided to join his Auntie Fe and Uncle Nestor in Calgary, where he worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway as a pipe fitter. Soon after, he met his future wife, Lucy, through a mutual friend. They married in 1981 and welcomed their daughter, Melissa, the following year. Emory and Lucy made many life-long friends in Calgary before moving to Vancouver in 1990. Emory took a job as a care aide at Edith Cavell Care Home. In 1996, he returned to his field as a lab assistant in the processing unit at the Canadian Blood Services. By 2015, Emory would retire from his career. Spending time with his two granddaughters, Mireya and Amira, always brought him joy, and he would never pass up an opportunity to watch a good old hockey game on TV.
A celebration of Emory’s life will be held on December 19, 2018 at 6pm at Ocean View Funeral Home, 4000 Imperial St., Burnaby BC. Funeral mass will be held on December 20, 2018 at 11am at St. Patrick’s Parish, 2881 Main St., Vancouver, BC.
