We Will Miss Her
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Elsie Smith at the age of 91 at the Calgary South Health Campus Hospital on April 2, 2018. Elsie was predeceased by her loving husband, who passed away on June 17, 2010. She is survived by her sister, Elaine Schultz and her married children Sharron (Brian), Robert (Lori), Patricia (William) and Randal (Jocelyne). Elsie was also grandmother to Brice, Robert, David, Jacklyn, Jovien, Michael, and Chloe, and great-grandmother to Madysyn, Maddex, and Gabriel.
Elsie was a devout and loving partner, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her life was filled with her love of family, passion for cooking and gardening, and her flair for fashion and decorating.
Elsie was born in Luseland, Saskatchewan to Frederick and Henrietta Bauer. She grew up in the small farming village of Lac Vert in central Saskatchewan and joined the military as a stenographer for the medical board during World War II. This is where she met the love of her life, Jack, upon his return from a Japanese prisoner of war camp at the end of the war. They married in 1946 and lived in Saskatoon where their four children were born. They moved to Calgary in 1961 and resided there until her passing on April 2, 2018.
