Obituary Overview
Elsie Gordon
Born on the family farm north of the Gully, north of Maidstone Saskatchewan, on July 27, 1927 with the fall harvest in full swing. Being the ninth child of twelve, growing up during the « dirty thirties », she was part of the whole, the working, the sharing, the making do with what they had, always ensuring that the family needs were met. Elsie continued to live her entire life with the same work ethics, life philosophy, and frugality to provide for her own family. Anyone who sat down at Elsie’s table benefited from her generous nature and never left hungry – a lesson learned from her youth.
Elsie’s education began at Dry Gully School including grade 9 & 10 which was done by correspondence, she comped grade 11 at home thru correspondence reporting directly to the department of Education in Regina, and grade 12 from Battleford Collegiate Institute. Elsie went on to graduate from Scott Business College in April 1948. She was immediately hired by the City of Saskatoon Health department where she worked for 5 years.
After marrying Wilfred (Bud) Gordon, 65 years ago, she devoted her life to raising her family, working for her community and church, as well as supporting Bud on the farm and his many pursuits. Elsie excelled at her hobby of cake decorating to the point that it became one of her home-based careers. Teaching was definitely a highlight for her, from teaching Sunday school, to 4-H both cooking and sewing, to many years around the area teaching cake decorating. In addition to this she found joy in square dancing, curling, and bowling.
Elsie is survived by Bud, Debbie (Tom), Raelene (Kevin), Carol (Darby), Bradford (Debbie) and daughter-in-law, Pam. 14 Grandchildren and 8 Great grandchildren. Sisters Bettie and Frances, sisters-in-laws Anne, Frances, Irene, and Doreen (Marvin). She was predeceased by son Deland and son-in-law Garry.
