Obituary for Elroy Carl Assman
Elroy Carl Assman passed away suddenly on Friday, November 30, 2018, at the age of 86 years old. He courageously fought advanced cancer for the past year.
Elroy was born on the family farm in Neudorf, SK, on May 22, 1932. He had two older brothers, Gordon and Harold. Elroy married Eleanora Steininger, and together they raised three children, Don, Calvin and Penny. Elroy loved farming and enjoyed his family and friendships, playing cards and attending many dances in the Neudorf Community Hall. His smile, sense of humour and proud love for his family will be greatly missed.
Elroy was predeceased by his parents, Philip and Anna Assman; his brother, Gordon; his wife, Eleanora; and his two sons, Don and Calvin. Fond memories will be forever cherished by his daughter, Penny; daughter-in-law Sharon (Calvin’s widow); brother Harold (Orma); and many dear friends and relatives.
Elroy was very proud of his greatest accomplishment, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Grandpa will always be remembered by his six grandchildren, Kevin (Jessica), Daryle (Kirsten), Scott (Brill), Trisha, Curtis (Jessi), Mandy (Joel); his two great-grandsons, Easton and Declan; and his great-granddaughter, Jordyn.
A memorial gathering will be held at the Neudorf Community Hall on Thursday, December 13, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice. Arrangements are entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville.
