Elizabeth « Donnarene » Knapp
April 7, 1935 – November 21, 2018
Passed away at Northumberland Hills Hospital, Cobourg on Wednesday November 21, 2018 at the age of 83. Beloved wife of the late Bernard Gordon Knapp. Loving mother of R. Gordon Knapp (Beverly Ann), Janice Louise Knapp (William Ouellette) and Michael David Knapp. Proud grandmother of Kieran Joseph Knapp, Jordan Robert Knapp, Justin Gordon Knapp and Mitchell David Knapp. Sister to Kathy Maskell, Carolyn Simpson, the late Betty Adeline Lackey, and the late Robert Ross Chatterson. Donnarene received her two year teaching diploma in Toronto, and started her teaching career at the Duke of Cannuaght School in Toronto. She moved to the Colborne area where she taught at the Colborne Public School. She then moved to E.W.S.S. in Brighton where she was a gym teacher. In 1972 she received her degree in English at Queens University in Kingston. She then taught English at E.W.S.S. She received a Masters in Public Administration from Queens University, and became a guidance councillor at E.W.S.S. She became the vice principal at E.W.S.S., and then at Cobourg High School and then became Principal at Clarke High School in Clarington. Donnarene was a long time member of the Lion’s Club and ministered and counseled at the Woman’s Crisis Centre. A funeral service will be held on Monday November 26, 2018 at Salem United Church at 3 p.m. with visitation from 1 p.m. until service time. If desired donations may be made to Myeloma Canada.
