Elizabeth Darlene Oickle
OICKLE, Elizabeth « Betty »- It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of Betty, 64 years young, of Waverley Road, after a long and courageous illness after complications from a double lung transplant she received in 2015.
She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Gary, who was by her side; her only daughter, Lindsay (Ciaran Coates); and her only Grandson, Cole; mother, Katherine “Kaye” Dorey; brothers Shane (Carrie), Mark (Sandra); sister Louise (Tim Boutilier); several Brothers-in-law, Sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her father, Bernard Dorey; brothers Larry and Louis; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ida and Barry Oickle.
Betty started her career as a teenager working at Millers Red & White in Fall River, then at IGA in Bedford, Scotia Speedworld, and lastly at George P Vanier as Cafeteria Supervisor. Betty loved spending time with her family and enjoyed doing crafts such as sewing, quilting, and painting. She loved going to Bluegrass Festivals and Country Jamborees with all the friends they met over the years. She loved going camping and spending time at their camp in Musquodoboit.
During Betty’s time in Toronto while awaiting her lung transplant, she became close with many other transplant recipients and their families, some of whom who have passed on.
Special thanks to the VON’s and Northwood Homecare who provided care and support through this difficult time.
