Obituary of Eleanor Proctor
Died Friday, January 19, 2018 in her 96th year. She is survived by her brother David Stevenson (Sonia) of St. Catharines. Eleanor is predeceased by her husband Francis A. “Ches” Proctor, her sisters Margaret Vincent (Hugh), Monica Stevenson, and her parents George and Monica (Swayze) Stevenson. She was a graduate of the St. Catharines Collegiate and the St. Catharines Business College. Eleanor worked for Wallace’s Department Store for 30 years, starting as an office clerk and switchboard operator and leaving as a company treasurer to go to Niagara Family and Children Services. She started her sixteen years at FACS as accounting supervisor and retired as business administrator. Eleanor worked with children over many years as Sunday school teacher and Cub pack leader. Along with her husband she was associated in many capacities with the Thorold Figure Skating Club from its inception in 1951 well into the 80’s. Eleanor and Ches moved in 1987 to the family home on Lake Erie near Dunnville where she was a member, treasurer and A.C.W. treasurer for 18 years of St. Paul’s Anglican Church. She was awarded the Order of Niagara by the Bishop of Niagara in 2004. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place at St. Paul’s Anglican Church at a later date to be announced.
