Obituary for Eleanor Mills
Eleanor Lillian Mills (nee Cunningham)
August 15, 1931 – December 15, 2018
Eleanor was born in Cookstown, daughter of Meldrin and Ada Cunningham and younger sister to Earl Cunningham. Eleanor grew up on the family farm in Essa/Thornton until she moved to Barrie to work in the insurance and bookkeeping industry. It was here where she met and married her husband Wib and they started their family. They relocated to Collingwood in 1958 where Eleanor was a homemaker taking care of their six children and throughout the years caring for many others in her home-based daycare. Eleanor enjoyed sewing for her family and friends and used countless yard of material creating beautiful dresses for weddings and costumes for the Blue Mountain Skating Club. Eleanor was an active volunteer with the skating club for over 35 years. Her love of music, either playing the piano or organ, was such a gift to those who experienced it. Eleanor also cared for children at the daycare at First Presbyterian Church for many years. Eleanor’s love of bowling, snowmobiling, camping, caring for others and music continues to live on through her children, grandchildren and great-granddaughters.
Eleanor is predeceased by her parents, husband and survived by her children Gordon, David and his wife Frances, Steven and wife Lynn, Kathryn and husband Glen Paull, Krista and husband Ron Harley, Karla and her husband Jack Peterson. Eleanor will be cherished in the hearts of her 12 grandchildren Caleb, Ethan, Sophie, Jacob, Spencer, William, Evan, Keira, Austyn, Alex, Cassie, Kristina and her 2 great-granddaughters Elise and Olivia.
As per Eleanor’s wishes cremation has taken place and the family is holding a celebration of life service at Fawcett Funeral Home on Thursday December 20, 2018, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Those who wish may make a donation in Eleanor’s memory to the Hospice Georgian Triangle – Campbell House.
