Eleanor McCulloch
1944-2018
Eleanor Anne McCulloch (Gerrior), August 12, 1944-December
24, 2018. It’s with great sadness that
the family of Eleanor Anne McCulloch (Gerrior) announce her passing at
home in Greenhill, Westville, on December 24, 2018 surrounded by
family and her beloved dog Marley.
She
was born in New Glasgow, daughter of the late Alma and Edward Gerrior
and late brother Edward (Glenda)
Eleanor
graduated from St. Martha’s in 1963, she worked as an
Operating Room nurse at the Aberdeen Hospital and then continued her
career at the Queensway Hospital in
Ontario. Eleanor was a dedicated wife to her
husband and mother to her children. Eleanor was a
pioneer in home health care as a coordinator at Shoppers Drug Mart
Home Health Care and Medical Mart in Ontario for over 30 years, later
retiring and moving back home to Nova
Scotia. Eleanor was very energetic, humorous, loved
to play games, swim, garden, bake and cook, passing along and keeping
old recipes alive for the generations of family. Most important of
all…passionately, Eleanor was always a person who dedicated
herself to help others in need, or provide medical attention day or
night without a second thought…. even after retiring.
Eleanor was known as « the angel of
Greenhill ».
Eleanor
leaves behind her beloved husband of 53 years, Richard; son, Mark
(Maggie); daughter, Sheri Dietrich (Chris); and grandchildren: Kaylee,
Jayden and Elle, her namesake. She is also survived by her nieces
Amanda and Stephanie Gerrior and sister-in-law, Judi (Ian Purches);
nephews: Jamie and Kip (Jennifer).
The
family would like to thank the staff from the VON and Palliative Care
for their support.
Visitation
7-9 pm Friday, in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New
Glasgow, from where funeral will be held at 2 pm Saturday, with Rev.
Jim Webber-Cook officiating. Reception to follow.
Memorial
gifts may be made in memory of Eleanor to the Aberdeen Palliative Care
Society, Canadian Cancer Society or Diabetes
Canada.
