Elaine Anne Felske
November 18, 1931 – February 10, 2018
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Elaine Anne Felske (nee Helstrom) formerly of Gray, Regina, Nokomis and Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, at the age of 86 years. Elaine passed peacefully on February 10, 2018, in the Paradise Path ward of the Herb Bassett Home. Elaine was born November 18, 1931 to Paul and Adoline Helstrom and was raised on the family farm near the rural town of Gray, Saskatchewan. She was a caring daughter, sister, wife, mother and friend who gave of herself to assist family, friends and those less fortunate. Her love of baking, cooking, flowers, gardening, sewing and her many collections, most notably owls, were lifelong passions. Elaine was always baking homemade whole wheat bread, ginger snap cookies, cinnamon buns and vanilla custard for her family and the many United Church bake sales. Apple salad with whipped cream and walnuts, baked sweet potatoes with marshmallow topping was Elaine’s specialty for her epic Easter, Thanks giving and Christmas Dinners, and of course what special tasting gravy she made. Elaine tended to a garden where ever she resided, to have fresh produce for the many delicious meals she prepared. Elaine’s working career ranged from being a Registered Nurse at the Grey Nuns Hospital- Graduating Class of 1953 (a small group of which Elaine stayed in touch with), a mother raising 3 sons, a caregiver to her grandparents, parents and husband, as well as a farm hand in her younger years with her husband Lloyd and parents as well as in retirement with her husband Lloyd and son Dallas on the farm/ranch at Nokomis, Saskatchewan. Elaine’s other interests included being a member of the Ladies Group at Wascana United Church, caring for any animals (especially cats), her Swedish heritage and her special nursing friend, Emily Stillwell. Elaine’s faith assisted her throughout her life, in dealing with her mother’s battle with Alzheimer’s, her battle with Alzheimer’s, as well as her husband Lloyd’s two battles with cancer. Elaine will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family: sons: Neale (Jacinta) and granddaughters: Alana, Amanda, Amelia (Cory) and Ashley Felske (of Calgary, Albert); Dallas of Nokomis, SK; Owen (Brenda) and grandson: Karsten (Jennifer) Felske of Saskatoon, granddaughters: Keltie (Tyler) Duret of Prince Albert, Korbin (Aaron Gordon) Felske of Prince Albert and Kassia Felske of Saskatoon. Elaine is survived by: her sister: Norma (“Curly”Wally) Douglas of Saskatoon; her brother: Dave (Cheri) Helstrom of Gray; brothers-in- law: Arnold Felske, Ron (Mary)Felske; sister- in- law: Muriel Jasko; nephews: Hugh (Charlene), Jamie (Cathy), Darren (Dianne), Doug (Marlene) , Winston, Ben (Pat), Stan, Joe, and Ron; and nieces: Susan Douglas, Melissa (Rick), Jennifer, Susan Cosco and Linda (Ron). Elaine was predeceased by her father: Paul; her mother: Adoline; her husband of 53 years: Lloyd (2010); and her sisters- in-law: Phillis Meikle, Maeolla Cosco and Phyllis Felske.The family wishes to thank the many Nurses, CCA’s and Recreation Coordinators – especially Jen McDougall and Richelle Anderson, for their care and kindness over the past six years. A Celebration of Elaine’s life will take place at Grays Funeral Chapel, 575 28th St W, on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 3:30 pm with Pastor Dennis Serfas as Officiant. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations in memory of Elaine may be made to the Herb Bassett Home – Recreation Department, 1200 – 24th St West, Prince Albert, SK, S6V 4B2.
