Eileen Pfeffer 2018

Eileen (Becker) Pfeffer, formerly of Normanby Township, passed away at The Village Senior’s Residence in Hanover, on Thursday, April 5, 2018, following a long and courageous struggle. She was a wonderful friend to all who knew her and appreciated and enjoyed each glorious day as a new adventure in her life. Her family and caregivers considered her to be feisty and a bit headstrong at times, but she treated everyone with a heart of gold, and had a good sense of humour. Eileen was the 2nd youngest child of Philip and Elizabeth (nee Eidt) Becker’s 11 children, and the last surviving member of that family. She was born on June 21st (the first day of summer) 1928, at the Becker homestead on the 9th Concession of Normanby, and attended S.S. #6 (Kraft’s) School until the end of Grade 8, when she helped out her parents on the family farm, with many household and farm duties. She met her soul-mate and partner for almost 70 years, Arnold Pfeffer, at the wedding of Gordon and Ruth (Pfeffer) Becker in September of 1946, and they were married 2 years later on June 8th, 1948, at Zion Lutheran Church, Ayton, by Pastor Daechsel. The wedding was held on a Tuesday, and also the 25th wedding anniversary of her parents Philip and Elizabeth. Arnold and Eileen farmed for almost 60 years just outside of Ayton on the 9th Concession of Normanby, until a debilitating stroke in June of 2005 which left the right side of her body paralyzed, and she endured life in a wheelchair for the remainder of her life. Arnold and Eileen both enjoyed dancing, playing solo, and visiting with family, friends, and neighbours. She was also an avid quilter. Arnold and Eileen eventually went to live at the Village Senior’s Residence in Hanover (Revera Long Term Care) in the fall of 2013, where Arnold predeceased her on October 28th, 2017. They have been lifetime members of Trinity Lutheran Church, and the former Zion Lutheran Church in Ayton where she was a long serving member of the Women of Faith.
Eileen was the loved mother of Wayne Pfeffer and Keith (Susan) Pfeffer, both from Ayton, as well as 2 sons predeceased (Brian in 1972 and Glen in 2001), and 2 daughters-in-law, Diane Pfeffer of Hanover, and Mary Lou Pfeffer of Ayton. She was a proud grandmother of Trevor (Christine) Pfeffer, Jason (Kristal) Pfeffer, Scott (Sherry) Pfeffer, Julie Pfeffer (Kevin McConnell), Tricia Pfeffer, Steven Pfeffer, Denise (Scott) Bender, Jenna Pfeffer (Chris Hamel), Jeff (Alex) Pfeffer, Brent Pfeffer (Ashley Hennig), Kaitlyn (Sandy) Hamilton, Kyle Pfeffer (Chantal Liesemer) and the cherished great grandmother of Cameron, Gavin, and Cassidy Pfeffer, Sloan, Mason, and Maximus Pfeffer, Zachery and Brooke Bender, Luke and Lacey Hamel, James Pfeffer, Taylor and Bryson Pfeffer, Silas, Kaleb, and Everett Hamilton, and the step Grandmother of Hayleigh Patterson, Nadia Doyle, and McKenzie Schantz. Her Sisters in-law Shirley and Mary Becker, as well as Paul (Ruth) Pfeffer, all from Ayton, also mourn her loss. Besides her husband, sons Brian and Glen she was predeceased by her parents Philip (1960) and Elizabeth (1980), 3 sisters Adella (John) Baetz, Maud (Edgar) Yenssen, Viola (Herbert) Yenssen, and 7 brothers, Milton (Fern) Becker, Elmer (Gertrude) Becker, Carl (Anne) Becker, Menno (Eileen) Becker, Allen, Reuben, and Harvey Becker.
Visitation will be held at the Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover, on Sunday April 8, 2018, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, April 9, 2018, at 11am, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Ayton, with Pastor Heather Spencer-Stoltz officiating. Interment in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Ayton.
Memorial donations to the Trinity Lutheran Church-Ayton, Chapman House or to the Neustadt Agricultural Society would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
