Eileen Gladys Courtney

COURTNEY, Eileen – August 16, 1926 – September 28, 2018 – Eileen Courtney passed away after living her last few years with dementia among other related health issues. Eileen Clark was born in Redhill, Surrey, UK the eldest of five girls to Fred and Ivy Clark. During the Second World War, Eileen met Harry Courtney from Toronto who was stationed in England with the Canadian Medical Corps. They were married April 21, 1945 and moved to Canada in 1946 settling in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario where they started their family. In the 1960’s they moved to St. Joseph Island where Eileen worked alongside Harry operating Courtney’s Marina & Gifts for over 25 years. Eileen always had a love of music and her piano playing was often enjoyed throughout their home. She possessed a beautiful soprano voice and was an active member of the Gordon Christie Choir in Sault Ste. Marie for many years. Eileen leaves to mourn her husband of over 73 years, Harry and their three children, son Robert (Jennifer) of St. Joseph Island – grandchildren Adam (Khanh), Matthew (Hayley), son Stephen (Beth) of Kenora – grandchildren Stephanie Loewen (Cory), Heather Hanwell (David) and daughter Susan Littleton (late Ken) of St. Joseph Island – grandchildren Courtney Littleton (Adam Underhill), Kendra Littleton, Brooke Littleton (Alex Ouimette). Eileen will also be missed by her great grandchildren, Elijah Loewen, Jane Hanwell, Evan, Carissa and Adara Courtney, and Skye Ouimette. Eileen also leaves behind her sisters in England, Joyce, Rita, Jean and Shirley, her brother-in-law in North Bay, Stan (June) along with many nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions to a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
