Edward Woodland 2018

Edward Woodland
Edward Baxter Woodland (Safety Ed) of Conception Bay South, Newfoundland and Labrador passed peacefully away at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie, Ontario, April 19, 2018 with his family by his side after a very short illness.
Ed graduated Memorial University of Newfoundland with a diploma in Health, Safety and Environmental Studies. He took a job with the Newfoundland and Labrador Government in the Environmental Department as an Environmental Advisor in Labrador City, NL, from here he went on to become an HSE Advisor at the Newfoundland Dockyard. As the shipping industry started to decline, he was offered a position with McNamara Construction, now Carillion, where he spent a few years in road construction and hydro development. When the oil and gas industry came on stream in Newfoundland and Labrador, Ed was offered a position at the Bull Arm Facility in Come by Chance where he was responsible for Safety and Environmental Issues on the FPSO and Terra Nova White Rose Projects. In early 2001 Ed then went on to take a position aboard an oil rig in Cameroon, West Africa with Global Santa Fe based out of Houston, Texas and he found his love to travel. This didn’t last long when SNC Lavalin called asking him if he would take a position at the Voisey Bay Nickel Mine in Voisey’s Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador. Ed spent the next 15 years in the mining industry that would take him to Madagascar, Baffin Island, Ear Falls and Fort McMurray. It is with sadness and a heavy heart that Ed worked his last day on April 9 and what would be his last project at CrossLinx Transit Solutions a joint venture of SNC Lavalin, Aecon, Ellis Don and Derogos on the Eglinton Crosstown ERT project – an extension to the subway system owned by Metrolinx in Toronto, Ontario. Ed entered the hospital on April 10, 2018 till his passing on April 19, 2018. He dedicated his whole life to safety and those that knew him knew, that he did not back down when it came to providing a safe workplace and ensuring that everyone made it back home each day.
He is sadly missed by his wife Kathleen (Tilley) and only daughter Grace Katherine (Spencer Franklin) who was the love of his life and his world. Left also to feel their loss are his father and mother in law Jim and Betty Tilley. Brother in Laws Jim Tilley Jr. and Justin Tilley (Danielle) of Conception Bay South, NL.
