Ruzycki, Edward
December 6, 1938 – November 9, 2018
It is with deep sadness that we announce that Edward Ruzycki, formerly of Edmonton and Innisfree, AB passed away on November 9, 2018 in the Youville Seniors Home, St. Albert, AB where he had been residing for the last year and a half. To some he was known as Edward, to others he was Ed, but to his family he was known as Uncle Eddie.
Uncle Eddie was born on December 6, 1938 in Innisfree. During his school years he enjoyed curling and playing on the Innisfree Fastball Team. After completing his schooling in Innisfree, he moved to Edmonton where he began his career with CN Rail and remained until his retirement 32 years later.
In the earlier days of living in Edmonton, “Uncle Eddie” enjoyed working, using his season tickets to the Edmonton Eskimo football games, listening to music on his radio, especially the Ukrainian hour every Sunday night and even took advantage of the teachings at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio. In the early 1980’s Uncle Eddie became a homeowner in northeast Edmonton where his interest in work continued but began to include working in his yard and flower beds, listening to the Oilers play hockey on his radio, even though he had a 55” television, and most of all doing what he loved best, dancing almost every Friday and Saturday night.
Unfortunately, Uncle Eddie was diagnosed with dementia after suffering a number of minor strokes. In November of 2015, due to seizures he was hospitalized for three months. It was determined that he could no longer live on his own in his house in NE Edmonton so he moved to the Citadel Seniors Facility in St. Albert where he could be closer to family. In November of 2017, unfortunately Uncle Eddie had to be hospitalized again. Upon his release he moved to the Youville Seniors Home in St. Albert where he resided until his passing.
Uncle Eddie was predeceased by his parents, John and Annie Ruzycki; step sisters and their spouses: Jesse (Glen) Baker of Edmonton, Nellie (Bill) Christie of Lloydminster; step brother, Frank (a gunner in World War II); his sisters, Joan Mokrey of Innisfree, Mildred (Stan) Berg of Kamloops; and his brother and spouse, Marshall (Eleanor) of Whitecourt.
He will be sadly missed by his nieces and their families: Bev (Alex) Glowach of St. Albert and Teresa Caesar of Innisfree.
Based on Edward’s request, there will not be a Funeral or Celebration of Life. His ashes will be interned in the Innisfree Cemetery in the Spring of 2019.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to the Alberta Alzheimer’s Society or Charity of One’s Choice.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Edward Ruzycki of St. Albert
