MORAN; Edward Joseph M.D.~ Passed away peacefully at Peterborough Regional Health Centre on January 1, 2018. Ed will be sadly missed by his wife Jeanne, his two sons Mark (Jeanie) and KC (Laura), his adoring daughters Holly and Laureen (Derek) and his 11 grandchildren: Sean (Michelle), Luke, Evan, Taylor, Peter, McKenzie, Ryan, Benjamin, Charlotte, Sam and Lucie and great grandson Cooper. Born in 1933 to Harry and Margaret (Kennedy), Ed was predeceased by siblings Kenneth, Jack (Mary Kathrine), Mary (Ted Avison) and Roderick (Delores) and survived by Harold (Sue) and Patrick (Gillian). Raised in Thunder Bay, Ed received his medical degree from the University of Toronto in 1957. He was in full time practice in Scarborough for 16 years and Chief of the Department of General Practice at Scarborough, which included responsibility for supervising the hospital’s emergency department. His passion for the politics of health care led him to leave clinical practice in 1976 to take a full-time staff position at the OMA becoming Director of Medical Services and, four years later, the Chief Executive Officer. He was also a longstanding CMA board member. As CEO, Ed transformed the OMA into a responsive, effective political organization. He earned the respect of all three political parties and governments at the provincial and federal level in what was often a turbulent climate for the profession. In addition to his passion for health care, everyone who knows Ed will remember how proud he was of his family. Ed was happily married to Jeanne for 57 years and a proud father who delighted in all of his grandchildren. His stories about growing up in Fort William as one of seven children were an endless source of entertainment and he was exceedingly proud of the achievements of his siblings.
