Obituary Overview
Edward Frank Goska
With heavy hearts we announce that on November 29, 2018, our Dad, Grandad, Brother, Uncle and Friend was embraced by our Lord and Savior, and by his precious wife Sylvia whom he missed profoundly since her passing in 2017.
Ed was born on June 2, 1932 in Winnipeg, MB where he lived his entire life. On May 26, 1956, he married his soulmate Sylvia after winning her heart with his many talents, like his artistic and singing abilities that he was proud to display. Together they nurtured and nourished the lives of their children, daughter Char Kothe, son Michael (Mary); grandchildren Kyli Campbell (Kris), Karina (boyfriend Jordan Unrau) and Matthew, whom they joyfully cherished. Their union was also blessed with several travels including many trips to Maui and Mexico with friends and family. Endless and wonderful memories were also created at the cabin Ed built at Lee River Falls where extended family – nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends too numerous to mention – gathered over lifetimes. He was and will remain a huge part of their lives and the lives of those with whom he worked and volunteered.
Ed worked as an estimator in the roofing industry his entire life, first for Fonseca Roofing, then with Transcona Roofing and most recently, Oakwood Roofing; his second family. He was a member of the CRCA, a lifetime member of the Manitoba Roofing Association, and a member of other associations including the Canadian Polish Professional and Business Association, the Knights of Columbus and the Kiwanis Club of Winnipeg. He also served on various boards including the Board of Directors for the Canadian Polish Manor and the Holy Family Nursing Home, and he was an active parishioner at St. Gerard Parish for decades as well.
Everyone who knew our Dad & Grandad will agree that he was loving and strong in spirit, commitment and mind until the very end. To the surprise of a therapist who recently assessed his cognitions, when he said he was working as a roofer until a few weeks ago, he wasn’t delirious. His work at Oakwood Roofing sustained him and in turn, he sustained those around him. With his quick-witted humour, he never stopped making us all laugh, even when his health failed him. He will be missed immensely until we meet him again.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at St. Gerard Parish, 45 Foster Street, Winnipeg, MB. Interment to follow at Glen Eden Cemetery, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, MB.
The family wishes to thank the ICU staff at Concordia Hospital who extended compassionate care to Ed.
We love you Grandad. Give Nanny a big hug from us all.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Edward Frank Goska 2018..
