Obituary Overview
Edmund Friesen
Ed Friesen was born in Plum Coulee, Manitoba on August 11, 1921. He passed away on April 1, 2018 at the Deer Lodge Centre (DLC) in Winnipeg. He was the last surviving member of a family of 8 children born to Cornelius and Anna Friesen. He is survived by his children Ken (Sandra Stuart), Carol (Brad Enns), Bonnie (Dennis Chambers), Joyce (Brad Duma) and Shelley (Carlos Furtado). He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and several nephews and nieces scattered across the country. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years, Anne in 2007, and his special companion, Shirley Gutkin, in 2014. Eddy was the consummate salesman. He started his sales career at the J.H. Ashdown Company and ended it as a realtor. Being a salesman allowed him to indulge in his great passion — golf. Serving in the Air Force during the Second World War was a defining event in Dad’s life and one in which he took great pride. He was a caring and gentle husband and father who took great delight in the sound of children’s laughter. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at the DLC and his special caregiver, Margaret Walker, who helped to make his last days a joy. A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Worship Centre (DLC 2nd floor) on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. A reception with light refreshments will follow. Interment will take place at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
