Dwight Robertson 19442018

ROBERTSON, Dwight
With sadness, we announce the passing
on December 27, 2018 of Rodney Dwight Robertson.
Born in Sydney, NS, on February 20,
1944, Dwight was the son of Flossie (Falconer) Robertson (now residing
at MacGillivrary Guest Home, Sydney) and the late Thomas
Robertson.
In 1961, Dwight began his career with
the Royal Bank of Canada Sydney main branch where he met his wife of
54 years, Diana (Cooper) Robertson. He received his Bachelor of
Business Administration from Saint Francis Xavier University in 1969,
and after moving cities several times with the bank, Dwight and Diana
decided to settle down and raise their family in Cape Breton. In 1972,
Dwight took a position with Touche Ross (now Deloitte &
Touche) and while there, he studied for the chartered accountancy
exam, which he passed in 1975. In 1977, he joined the Business
Administration faculty at UCCB (now Cape Breton University) and
retired as Associate Professor in 2009 after 32 years of
service.
Dwight grew up on Mira Road and spent
his summers as an adult at Hillside Mira, so it is not surprising that
many of his life-long hobbies involved the bounteous nature of Cape
Breton Island. In his early years, he was an avid outdoorsman and
spent much of his leisure time swimming and boating on the Mira,
fishing with his friends and his wife at Lake Ainsley, and hunting
with his father. When he was not enjoying the outdoors Dwight enjoyed
playing tarabish and poker with his friends.
Dwight took up golf relatively late in
life, but that did not stop him from becoming a very good player
indeed. (His backyard bravely suffered the divots for the cause.) He
was a long-time member of Lingan Golf and Country Club and served
there as treasurer of the Board of Directors. Dwight followed his
passion for golf to courses all over North America and the Caribbean.
His golf ball Christmas tree ornament — « Another
Ball in the Trees » — still hangs on our tree this
Holiday season. We will dearly miss his wonderful sense of
humour.
As a member of St. Mark’s
Anglican Church in Coxheath, Dwight sang in the choir for many
years.
Dwight is survived by his mother
Flossie (Falconer) Robertson; wife Diana (Cooper) Robertson; daughter
Sherry Robertson (Laurie Moore); sons Rodney Robertson (Ayumi Sekine)
and Christopher Robertson (Lindsay MacDougall); brothers Thomas
Robertson (Betty McAloon) and David Robertson (Donalda Walker), sister
Amber Robertson-Webb (Bruce Webb); grandchildren Aya Robertson and
Lexa Robertson.
We would like to express our gratitude
to Kendra Popwell, Rod McCarron, and the physicians, nurses, and
medical staff at the Cape Regional Hospital for their wonderful care.
In addition, we would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Anne
Frances D’ Intino and the staff of Palliative Care Unit for
their compassionate guidance during his final hours.
There will be no visitation or
service. Condolences and donations can be made to the Kidney
Foundation, Sydney SPCA, or charity of your choice.

Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Dwight Robertson 19442018..
