Obituary of Duncan Young
Age 63 of Windsor, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, April 17, 2018, in the VG Hospital, Halifax, surrounded by his family. Born in Montreal on December 26, 1954 he was a son of the late Duncan and Christina (Menzies) Young.
He moved to Nova Scotia in 1988 and it soon became his home. Duncan was a dedicated Mason and held many offices. He was Master of Welsford Lodge No. 26, Windsor, for three terms. In addition he was the recipient of the Meritorious Service Award for his dedication to the Craft and the Long Service Award for his work as Lodge Secretary. He also served as Hants District Chaplain and was a past High Priest of The Hiram Chapter No. 3, Windsor. Duncan was a renowned ritualistic who amazed all with his ability to recall perfectly long passages of instructive text. For a generation of Masons in Windsor he was a mentor, assisting them in learning the Work as they progressed. Duncan will be always loved and remembered by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving partner and best friend, Christine Young; daughter, Ellen (Brent) Fischer. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Duncan Alexander Drummond Young.
Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert Street, Windsor (902-798-8317), where Welsford Lodge No. 26 will conduct a public Masonic tribute service on Sunday, April 22 at 2 pm. This will be immediately followed by a reception in the funeral home’s Elmcroft Reception Centre. Burial will take place at a later date.
