Duncan Smith ( November 26, 1958- September 19, 2018)
Duncan passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in his sleep on September 19th, 2018 in Penticton BC. He was 59 years old. Our family is heartbroken and we know that the community he impacted in positive ways feels our pain as well.
Duncan was born in Sowerbry Bridge, Yorkshire,England on November 26, 1958 to Thomas Matthew Smith and Florence Smith. The family immigrated to Canada settling in Delta in 1967, where he attended Delview Highschool before joining the family business and becoming a Licensed Refrigeration Technician from BCIT. The family moved to Prince George in 1979. It was there he met his first wife Cindy. Together they had daughters Lisa and Jodi who Duncan took much pride in. After their marriage dissolved in 1987, Duncan and the girls moved to Penticton/Summerland where he started Quality Appliance and Refrigeration in 1991. In 1994 he purchased Rapid Repair Appliance Service which he expanded to Surrey/ White Rock 2001-2013 with his new wife Anna Kennedy, they returned to Penticton in 2013.
He leaves behind his father Matt, siblings Sue Stewart (Tom), Tony, and Robert, daugthers Lisa Alexis(Anthony) and Jodi, Step Children Tree, and Tony (Kei) Grandchildren Kyra, Adam, Elijah, Talitha, and Matthew, nieces Tamara, Tara, Sarah, Danica Peacock(Jay), Alyson, Sherri, Angela and nephews Mike,Bryan and Colin, Dustin and Travis.
His passing leaves a void in the refrigeration sector of the Okanagan with over 40 years experience, Duncan had built a strong reputation in the industry. He valued his customers, professional relationships and friendships deeply. We thank everyone for the role you played to bring joy to his life.
An open service will be held at 10am Saturday September 29, 2018, followed by a Celebration of Life at Bethel Church, 945 Main St, Penticton BC. His ashes will be scattered with his late wife Anna (2017) privately with family.
