Dr. Lee J. White
1913-2018
At the impressive age of 104 years, Dr. Lee Jackson White has passed
away at the Victoria Glen Manor, Perth-Andover, NB, on May 27,
2018.
Lee was born at his family farm in Wicklow, NB to his beloved parents
Emma and Stanley White, a brother to Leslie, Marion, Howard, Helen,
Winnifred, and Philip.
His parents and siblings, the wife and mother of his children, Joan
LeBaron Hunting, and his second wife, Rita Post predeceased him.
Forever Lee will be missed by his three daughters Leslie Van Dover
(David), Vivian White and Ellen Carter (Dave), his grandchildren Tyler
Craig, Adriane King (Tony), Bradley Craig (Brittany), Emma Thomas
(Rob), Karin Watts and his cherished great-grandchildren Finnegan
Thomas and Avery Lee Craig. He is also survived by step-son Harold
Post (Julia), step-daughter Charlene Butterfield (Dean) and Pat Porter
(Paul).
Lee attended Bristol High School and Normal School (Teachers College)
in Fredericton before entering his profession as a teacher in
Summerfield, NB (later Wicklow). He joined the RCAF and served in WW2
as a pilot of Wellington aircraft and squadron leader in the Royal Air
Force (RAF) 220 Squadron in the Mediterranean theater from 1942-1944
and then with RAF 120 Squadron from Bally Kelly, Northern Ireland,
flying VLR (Very Long Range) Liberators until 1945. The Convoy Cup
Foundation honored Lee for his role in protecting convoys crossing the
Atlantic during the war.
In 1945, while on leave in Montreal he met and fell in love with Joan
LeBaron Hunting. They married October 5, 1945. Lee then attended
McGill University, graduating from the School of Dentistry in 1951.
His love for his NB home brought him back to the Saint John River
Valley to set up his dental practice in Perth-Andover.
To call him amazing seems an understatement when reflecting on his
careers as a teacher, WW2 pilot, and dentist/denturist. His hobbies
of tying flies, fishing trout and salmon, hunting, flying airplanes,
collecting pocket watches, building gun stocks, gunsmithing, fixing
small engines, gardening, violin making, and the Wednesday Evening
Fiddlers were his joy. At home, one could often hear Lee whistling or
singing a happy tune. Being resourceful, learning all he could about
any subject, and trying to master one skill after another was in his
nature. He loved to teach what he had learned to all who enjoyed
listening. He took special interest in helping children learn and
providing opportunities for them that he felt they did not have. Lee
was exceptionally generous with his time, resources, and
knowledge.
When asked by others his secret to longevity, Lee would wink, nod, and
let you guess. Those who knew him well could point to a wise diet,
meaningful work, rest, and lots of exercise.
Lee and his family are especially thankful for the exemplary care
provided to him by staff and volunteers at the Victoria Glen
Manor.
A memorial service celebrating Lee’s life will be held later at
the Perth-Andover Baptist Church. Details will announced once they
become available.
Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made in Lee’s
name to Victoria Glen Manor Foundation.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Brunswick Funeral Home,
Perth-Andover.
