OBITUARY
Dr. Henry Sewards
23 June , 1932 – 1 April , 2018
SEWARDS, Dr. Harry -Peacefully, surrounded by his family at his home on Easter Sunday, April 1st, 2018, in his 86th year. Harry was born on June 23, 1932 in Bridport, England to Frederick and Peggy Sewards. He leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Frances, his children Richard (Faith), Michael (Angie), and Patricia (Alan), and his grandchildren Sarah and Alex of whom he was so proud. He was the dear brother of the late Averill (Michael), Tricia (John), and K.J. (Dick) and proud uncle of Alison, Christopher, Rosamund, Wendy, Humphrey, Jocelyn, Jeremy and Simon. Harry’s early education was at the Salisbury Cathedral School in Salisbury, England as a chorister, which instilled in him his love of classical music. He obtained his medical degree from the University of London and his general surgical registration in Edinburgh. He arrived in Canada in May of 1967 with Frances and his three very young children, and often said that moving to Canada was the best decision he and Frances ever made. After living in Edmonton and Edson, Alberta for a few years, he moved to Sault Ste. Marie in May of 1972 where he practiced surgery at the Group Health Centre for over 30 years. Harry was an avid genealogist. He also loved to spend time digging in the garden, sailing, and camping with friends and family at Pancake Bay. Later he loved to relax in Mexico with Frances. For the last 18 months he thoroughly enjoyed the many new and great friendships he made at Collegiate Heights Retirement Residence and was extremely grateful for the wonderful care he received there. A celebration of Harry’s life will be held at a later date in Sault Ste. Marie. Charitable donations, in lieu of flowers, to Doctors without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières or the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation would be appreciated. Special thanks to Drs.
