Dr. Ha Trong Tran
1933-2017
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our
devoted father and loving husband, Dr. Ha Trong Tran on December 30,
2017. He died peacefully after a short but brave battle with
cancer surrounded by his family in Saint John, NB. Dr. Tran
persevered and overcame many hardships and challenges over the years
to establish his successful career and provide a prosperous life for
him and his family. Well-liked and very social, he will be
remembered for his professionalism, graciousness, and kind
heart.
Dr. Tran was born in Hanoi, Vietnam where he earned his
MD. He then studied in the US to earn his Master’s
Degree and PhD at Ohio State University, followed by his American
Board Certification. In 1969, Dr. Tran moved to Canada with
his young family, first to Quebec and then to Saint John in 1971 where
he was a pathologist at the Saint John Regional Hospital for nearly 30
years. Dr. Tran was a Life Member of the New Brunswick
Medical Society and Member of the Saint John Medical
Society. He loved gardening and art and often spread his
love of art with gifts of his paintings and drawings. He was
also an avid sports fan and played soccer, ping-pong, and
billiards. You could always be sure to spot him at a lotto
booth and he will be greatly missed at the hockey pool.
Dr. Tran is survived by his wife, Mai (Vu) Tran of Rothesay,
NB; three sons: John and Robert of Halifax, NS and David (Sue
Bernadas) of Edmonton, AB; two daughters: Simone (Donald Clancy) of
Fredericton, NB and Lisa (Pieter Van Schaick) of Rothesay, NB and five
grandchildren: Emily, Matthew, Cara, Schuyler, and Claire.
He is also survived by several brothers and sisters, and several
nieces and nephews.
Dr. Tran is resting at Brenan’s
Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (506)
634-7424 (www.BrenansFH.com) with visitation on Sunday, January 7,
2018 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM. Remembrances to the Canadian
Cancer Society or to the charity of the donor’s choice would
be appreciated. A memorial service will be held later in the Spring. A
future announcement with the details of the service will be made
closer to that time.
