Dr. Barbara Ann Rao
Rao, Dr. Barbara Ann – passed away January 2, 2018 at the Dartmouth General Hospital after a long battle with cancer.
Barbara was never without a book, an opinion, a laugh or an obscure bit of knowledge. She’s looking forward to conducting research in her lab in the hereafter. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Dan Allan Gillis and Margaret Rose (Middleton) Gillis.
Survived by daughters, Margaret Rao (John James), Heather Rao (Edd Benson); grandson, Declan James; brothers, Roy (Patricia) Gillis, Malcolm Gillis (Patty Young); sister in law, Joan Gillis; nieces, Jennifer (Christian), Katherine (Steven), Sarah (Steve) and nephew Paul.
Predeceased by husband Shamma Rao and brother Danny Gillis.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Saturday, January 6, 2018, 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm at Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Road, Halifax. A private service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Parkinsons Foundation of Nova Scotia.
