It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the loss of the pillar of our family.
Douglas Ray Elton O’Connell passed away at the young age of 67, on October 28th, 2018, at Guelph General Hospital, with his family by his side.
Douglas, of Montreal, was the only son of the late, James and Violet O’Connell.
He has left behind Donna, his devoted wife and best friend of 41 years, daughters Jennifer Marilyne ( Ronald ), grand daughter Jaelyn and Tara Ina (Isaac ).
Doug enjoyed all aspects of life and his thirst for knowledge allowed him to be well versed in any topic.
His wife Donna, was his best friend, devoted soul mate and partner in life.
Being in each others company was all they ever needed to make each day special.
Doug was a dedicated father, friend and mentor to his daughters Jennifer Marilyne and Tara Ina and their respective husbands, Ronald and Isaac, who he gained as sons.
He loved his only grand daughter Jaelyne Kairah (munchkin), who made him beam with delight.
He taught his daughters to ‘treat others as they wanted to be treated’ and help others less fortunate than themselves.
It Is impossible to capture, in words, the essence of Doug and how incredible he was.
He lit up our world and he will be truly missed.
The family will receive friends at the Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon St., Guelph, on Saturday, November 3, 2018 from 2-4, and 6-7. A candlelight funeral service for Douglas will be held in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 7 p.m. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada would be appreciated by the family. The family have asked that your memories of Douglas to be shared.
