Douglas’ Obituary
Douglas Lorimer Nix, 76, passed away on November 27, 2018 at Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville, Nova Scotia due to complications from cancer. Doug is survived by his wife of 57 years, Karen; his daughter, Terri Lynne Chabot and her husband Andre of Caledon, ON; son, Dale Robert Nix and his wife Sharon Nix (Frail) of Beaver Bank, NS; and three grandchildren, Breana Nix Chabot, Evan Gerrard Chabot and Joel Douglas Chabot. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carvell Alexandar Nix and Lola Mae Nix (Thompson); his sister Ruth Ellen Cudmore and brother Fred Carvell Nix. Douglas was born in Collingwood Corner, Nova Scotia on April 5, 1942. He graduated from Oxford Regional High School in 1960, where he was School Council President, Valedictorian and Athlete of the Year. He and Karen married on June 6, 1961. Doug was an amazing father, providing his children with many opportunities. He was also a wonderful grandfather, who enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and he was adored in return. Doug spent most of his career as a sales representative for a number of companies and retired from Tetley Tea in 1997, at the age of 55. Doug and Karen travelled in their RV throughout Canada and the U.S. for the first two years. They then settled in Kingston, NS in the summer and Florida in the winter, which enabled them to golf multiple times per week all year round. Doug was an excellent golfer and played some of his best games this past summer at Paragon Golf Club, where he had been a member for a number of years. Doug volunteered many hours at the Club, helping out with tournaments and Men’s Day. Those that knew Doug would describe him as outgoing, helpful and kind, with a strong work ethic. He was so very much loved and respected by his wife, his children, his grandchildren and all who knew him. He will be greatly missed. Doug requested that there not be a memorial service. A visitation with refreshments will be held 2-4 p,m, and 6-8 p.m. Friday, November 30th in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., 902-825-3448. Douglas requested a tree be planted in his name at Paragon Golf Club, with his ashes spread below. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
