Happy Trails to Douglas James McCarthy- 80, of Simcoe Ontario. He passed away at his Norview Lodge home on January 6, 2018. Born at the Holden family home in Simcoe to parents, Alice and John McCarthy. He is predeceased by his sister Jean Roberts (Paul) and brother Jack McCarthy (Madeleine). Douglas grew up in New Toronto, moved to Mississauga and retired to Port Dover. Douglas is predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Patricia (Stothers). Douglas and Patricia were very connected to their extended families and while raising their two children, Stephen (Doris Weiler) and Elizabeth (Jens Heidecker) they made sure to keep family relationships close. Nothing made Doug happier than to host family gatherings. Doug and Pat spent many days watching their two grandchildren, Benjamin and Erin participate with their music, sports and educational journeys. Their children and grandchildren have been blessed to carry on the many values and traditions handed to them from the kind-hearted relationship Doug and Pat shared. Douglas was a dedicated Bell employee for over 35 years. He volunteered numerous hours to Scouts Canada and coached with the Lorne Park Hockey association. Douglas was nicknamed “Charlie McCarthy” because of his beautiful smile, charming personality and love to dress-up for a laugh by adding to a moment of spontaneity with a hat. Doug’s love for music kept him smiling and dancing even after his early diagnosis of Dementia. The family is very grateful for having the opportunity to initiate Project Lifesaver in to Ontario and for the “down-home” care he received by his Norview Family. Keep a song in your heart…until we meet again! Any donations to the Alzheimer’s Society www.alzhn.ca in memory of Douglas will be directed to Project Lifesaver. Arrangements entrusted to THE FERRIS FUNERAL HOME, Simcoe, Ontario. Online condolences at www.ferrisfuneral.com.
