OBITUARY
Douglas Grierson White , 79 (formally of Beaver Bank) recently of East Hants passed away February 16, 2016, at the QEII-HSC, Halifax Site Born In Liverpool, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late G. W. Howland and Evelyn (Grierson) White. Doug joined the Merchant Marines in his last year of high school in order to earn money to attend the drafting program in the Halifax Vocational School. It was during a badminton game that he saw a vision in pink shirt and white shorts. He would tell anyone who would listen how he met and married that vision. Doug and Mary White have been each other’s best friends for over 56 years. He showed his devotion every day to his children, grandchildren and especially his wife (who up until he retired, received a single red rose every Friday as a symbol of his love). For over 45
years, Beaver Bank was home for Doug. He became involved with many community initiatives. One particular favorite was the 2nd Beaver Bank Boy Scouts where he served on Group Committee and provided the District with the name it is still known by, Sespenack. In 1984 Doug attended the 1st Anglican Cursillo of Nova Scotia. This strengthened his love of God and allowed him the opportunity to serve as Lay Director. During these years he showed that Christianity can be fun. It was also during this time that he and Mary found their ‘home’ at St Francis by the Lakes Church. Doug worked for 25 years at the Office of the Fire Marshal as a building plan examiner. He was able to take an early retirement, but promptly hung out his own shingle. He with the help of his CEO and secretary, Mary, operated Douglas White Building Code Consulting successfully for 20 years and was well respected in his profession. He had the opportunity to work on some of the biggest changes that have happened in Halifax, such as the Sheraton Casino, and the World Trade and Convention Centre. Doug is survived by his loving wife Mary (Lavers) White; daughters: Kathleen (Terry Bonin), Debby (Michael Honcoop), and Son: Chris (Angela) White; and will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren: Madison White, Justin Webb, Sydney White, Chelsea Webb, Shannyn Parfitt and Kristin White; along with many sisters in law, brothers in law and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his in-laws Bonnie and Del Lavers, brother Arthur White, sister Evelyn Aulenback and grandson Joshua Gideon White-Parfitt. No visitation will be held. A Funeral Service will be held Friday, February 23 at 2:00 pm at St. Francis by the Lakes Anglican Church on First Lake Drive. Archdeacon Mark Kingsbury officiating. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Nova Scotia Alzheimer’s Society or Nova Scotia Cancer Centre.
