Obituary for
Douglas G. Stewart
On May 22, 2018, at the age of 62, Douglas (Doug) Stewart of Parkland County, was suddenly taken from us due to heart failure.
Doug is survived by his four children, Mandelle Williams, Jocelynn Stewart, James Stewart, and Nicole Stewart, and his two grandsons, Fenwick and Jesperdale Williams of Edmonton, AB, as well his two sisters, Marian (Wally) Campbell and Linda McDonald of Medicine Hat, AB. Doug is lovingly remembered by his long-time friend and companion, Laura Lawson of Golden, BC. He is also remembered by many nieces, nephews,cousins and friends.
Doug was born March 20, 1956, in Craik, SK to his parents, Douglas Sr. and Inez Stewart.
Doug grew up in Regina, SK where he participated in the Regina Lion’s Marching Band playing the clarinet, and played high school basketball, and developed his love of restoring classic cars and all things mechanic. Doug graduated from Thom Collegiate High School in Regina in 1974. Doug moved to Edmonton, AB in 1980 with his young family, and joined the Edmonton Fire Department in 1982.
Doug loved the outdoors including cycling, skiing, hiking, camping, and basketball in the driveway with his grandsons. Doug’s loyal side-kick, Molly the dog, could always be found by his side for his many adventures.
In 2013, after 31 years of service, Doug retired as a Captain in the Fire Department, and he had since spent his time between his acreage lot in Parkland County and his second home in the Columbia Valley of the Rocky Mountains where he loved spending time outdoors.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, May 29 at 3:30 p.m. at Park Memorial Chapel, 9709 – 111 Avenue for those wishing to pay their respects. Cremation will take place. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Edmonton Fire Fighter Burn Treatment Society (www.efbts.ca), Suite #1, 7024 – 101 Avenue, Edmonton, AB T6A 0H7
