Douglas Forbes Scott (Doug) passed away peacefully in Sechelt BC on Friday February 23rd, 2018 at the age of 84 years. Doug was born in Benoni, South Africa, on September 14th, 1933, the second eldest of seven children. At age fifteen he helped his father in his photographic studio and became a talented photographer himself. After completing an apprenticeship as a pattern maker working with wood, he then worked in the drawing office for Stewarts and Lloyds and later started his own business, « Douglas Copy Service, » selling photocopy machines. When Ozalid South Africa bought his successful business, he worked for them in Durban, and eventually became National Sales Manager, based in Johannesburg. Five years later, pining for the seaside in Durban, he and his wife Dot returned to the coast and sold property for several years. A new challenge appeared when, at age 63, he and Dot emigrated to Gibsons BC in Canada to be near their daughter Julie and son Michael and families. Dot and Doug integrated into the Sunshine Coast community and Doug worked for the Coast Reporter, selling advertising. There he made lasting friendships before retiring at age seventy-four, to indulge in his hobby of turning wooden bowls. He is sadly missed by his wife Dot and son Gary (Zelda) in New Zealand, Michael (Tish) in Victoria, Alan (Karen) in England, and Julie (John) in Gibsons BC. His grandchildren: Mitchell (Mae), Matthew, Paige (Alan), Jessica (Lawrence), Roxanne, Tandia, Hayley, Rowan, Luke, Warren and one « acquired » one (Chelsea), all loved their Grandpa Doug. R.I.P. Doug, the « African King. » A heartfelt thankyou to Dr. Robert Lehman who was his outstanding, caring doctor for 22 years, as well as his dentist, Dr. Bland and Mary. We would also like to thank the staff at Sechelt Hospital and Shorncliffe Care Facility,The Hospice Society, and Doug’s angels – The Threshold Choir Singers.

A Celebration of Life will be held at The Salvation Army Church, 5-682 Gibsons Way, on Saturday, March 3rd at 2pm followed by refreshments and your stories of Doug.
