Obituary Overview
In Memory of Douglas
Family patriarch, private investor, world traveler and licensed pilot, Douglas Evans Heagle of Burlington, Ontario departed on November 2, 2018, in his 88th year, for his last great adventure.
Lyn Heagle (Colbert) was his high school sweetheart and co-pilot in life. Together, they lovingly raised 5 remarkable children (who may have written this part) – Marnie (Bob), Janice (Garry), Bruce (Christine), Barbara (Roman) and Brian (Ria).
Doug was always happiest when surrounded by family, which includes 10 grandchildren (Amanda, Josh, Kaitlyn, Christopher, Elyse, Adam, Brad, Loren, Adele, Will) and 2 great-grandchildren (Audrey, William, with another on the way).
And that was true during the final days. At his bedside, Doug was warmly enveloped by love, storytelling and gratitude.
A graduate of the Ivey School of Business and second generation owner of National System of Baking and NSBL International, Doug was also a director of several Canadian and overseas companies, including Central Fund of Canada.
Doug volunteered his tremendous leadership skills and generous spirit to many community organizations. He was a Rotarian, Scottish Rite Mason, and Past-Chair and Builder at Hillfield Strathallan College.
A quietly creative soul with a dry wit (often highlighted by a subtle wink or twinkle in his eye), Doug touched many lives, in many ways. He was wise, calm, observant, honourable and kind. Integrity and loyalty were not mere words to Doug, they were his guiding principles.
Love you lots!
