Douglas Earl MacKenzie, Age 76, St Andrews, NB, passed away peacefully March 28, 2018 at the Charlotte County Hospital after a hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born in Saint John to the late Bedford and Retta (Killam) MacKenzie. Doug grew up in St Andrews after moving there at the age of four. He was the retired owner of Charlotte County Laundry and Cleaners in St Andrews where he and his wife Donna grew a successful family business that was passed down from his father. He was a faithful, loyal member of the St Andrews United Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was a devoted volunteer not only to his church but also the Gideons Society for over 43 years and Charlotte County Dial -a- Ride . He loved to race whether on the water in one of his many sailboats or on the back of a motorcycle in his younger years. He passed down his love of motorcycles to his boys and the love of the water to his grandchildren. After his family, a peaceful sail on the Passamaquoddy Bay was where he enjoyed life the most. He will be sadly missed by his many friends in the sailing community.
Doug is survived by his wife of over 56 years Donna (Merchant); children Tracy (Kim) Bedford NS, Tammy (Alan Kent), Waweig, NB., Thomas (Sarah) St George, NB.; four grandchildren: Tobin, Haley, Lexie and Jack; brother, Paul (Becky) Boundary Creek, NB.; sister, Joan McLean, St George, NB. ; as well as many nieces, nephews and many, many friends.
Funeral service will be held at the St. Andrews Baptist Church, St. Andrews, NB on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at 2 PM. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday, 12:30 to 1:30 PM.
