Dorothy Jean Matheson
On Sunday, July 1st at the Loch Lomond Villa, Jean passed away peacefully. She was a loving and devoted wife of the late Stanley Matheson. Jean was born in 1924 in Grand Falls NFLD, to the late Chesley and Stella (nee Hillier) Woodman.
After a long teaching career she retired in 1981 from Beaconsfield School; she was very active in many organizations including the IODE and University Women’s Club. She attended Saint Columba Presbyterian Church as long as she was physically able and took great comfort in her Faith.
She is survived by her sister Verna Pollet, of Boca Raton Florida, and sisters in law Anne (Nance) Woodman and Mary Woodman, as well as numerous nieces and nephews including Robert Howard (Debbie) Musquash.
Besides her parents and husband Stan Matheson, she was predeceased by brothers Claude, Robin, Lloyd, Guy and George and sisters Marise Howard and Shirley Alteen. As well as brothers in law Jim Howard, Douglas Alteen and Ronald Pollet.
Arrangements are under the care of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave Saint John, NB E2M2L3 (506)634-1701. Visitation will be held at Castle on Thursday, July 5th from 2-4PM and 7-9PM. A Service of Celebration for the Life of Jean will take place on Friday, July 6th at 11AM at Saint Columba Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. A reception will be held in the Saint Columba Church Hall following burial. Donations in Jean’s memory can be made to P.R.O Kids or the donor’s choice.
