Obituary for
Dorothy Janet Aston (Miller)
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Janet Aston on Saturday, October 6th, 2018 at the age of 81 years.
Janet was the dear mother of Jan (Charlie McIver), Kim (Peter Culumovic), Dave (Anne Connell) and Jim, and much-loved grandmother of Katie and Charles McIver and Kieran and Ethan Aston. She is predeceased by her daughter Catherine, her beloved brother Jim (Pauline) and parents George and Dorothy Miller. She will be greatly missed by her nieces Judith, Cathy, Melanie, Karen and Christine and nephews Brian, Gerry and George and many great nieces and nephews.
Janet was born in Sudbury, Ontario on November 15th, 1936. She graduated from Nursing at Royal Victoria Hospital in 1958 prior to moving to Ottawa, where she raised her family.
Janet loved to laugh and her laughter was contagious. She is remembered by her family as an exceptionally kind-hearted and generous person, with a warm and sunny disposition that endeared her to all who knew and met her. She was active in sports and the community, and enjoyed skiing, golfing, tennis and the “Y” women. She loved spending time at the cottage on Lake Opinicon, and gatherings with family and friends.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Orchard View Mississippi and the Almonte General Hospital for their loving and compassionate care of Janet as her life came to a close.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at the residence of Dave Aston, 592 Brierwood Avenue on Thursday, October 11th from 6:00 – 9:00 pm. Janet’s final resting place will be in the Miller family plot at Park Lawn Cemetery in Sudbury. If you wish to remember Janet, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County at www.dementiahelp.ca.
