Dorothy Schiller
1930-2018
Dorothy Schiller (nee Copeland), aged 87, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2018, surrounded by her family, in Calgary. Dorothy was born September 12, 1930 to Elmer and Bessie Copeland in Senlac, SK, one of ten children. She trained as a nurse at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Humboldt, SK. She met her husband, Elmer Schiller in Macklin, SK and they were married on November 23, 1953. Together they raised six children and eventually moved to Athabasca to farm where Dorothy resided until December 2016 when she moved to Calgary.
Dorothy worked as a nurse and became administrator of Blunt’s Nursing Home, later Extendicare, and retired in 1995 after a 20 year career. All those who worked for Dorothy loved her and respected her guidance. She had a gift for enriching the lives of and caring for the elderly; even at age 85, she was still helping those around her.
Dorothy was predeceased by husband, Elmer; infant twin daughters Sandra and Pamela; daughter Dorothy Lynette Elliott; infant granddaughter Leah Schiller; and grandson Chris Schiller, brothers Harold, Melville, Neil, and Jack and sisters Olive Leeson, Evelyn Abbott, and Elma Polinsky
Dorothy is survived by two sons and three daughters: Mel, Maureen (Geoff) Weber, Corinne, Danny (Patti), and Loretta (Mark) Maloney; 9 grand children: Gillian Schiller; Mathew (Kristy) Elliott, Jacob Elliott, Rebecca Dorothy (Trevor) Bergen; Davis, Thomas, and Jesse Weber; and Connor and Katie Maloney; and four great-grandchildren: Sarai and Annika Schiller; Cayden Schiller; and Avery Dorothy Bergen. Also survived by sisters Shirley (Bernie) Neufeld, Edith Guyot, and sister-in-law Darlyne Copeland
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at the Athabasca Missionary Church
