Doris Nellie (Bryant) Town
It is with a quiet sorrow that the family announces the passing of Doris Nellie (Bryant) Town on April 24, 2018. Doris was born November 11, 1922, to Ernest and Barbara (McLennan) Bryant of Inglis, Manitoba. She spent her early years on the family farm, then taught school at Riding Park, Bissett (San Antonio Gold Mines), Dauphin and then Prince Albert. While in Dauphin, she met Jim Town and they were married October 1, 1949, and spent their married lives in Regina, Saskatoon and moved to Prince Albert in 1960. Doris is survived by three sons, their spouses, nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren: Bryant (Judith), son James (Kristin)- Cadence, Thaddeus, son Daniel of Edmonton; Jamie (Shelly) of North Battleford, daughter Jennifer (Dave Schmid) of Saskatoon, daughter Stephanie (Jeremie Roussel)- Sawyer, Max of Regina; Warren’s children, daughter, Krista (Ben Pullen)- Addison, Jonah, son Jayman (Bonnie)- Dayson, Liam of Warman, son Brennan (Meghan) of Vancouver; David (Arlene) children Nigel and Lauren of Prince Albert; one sister, Gwen Oliver of Winnipeg, one brother Arthur (Bev) Bryant of Winnipeg, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Jim, son Warren, sister Margaret Lyon, brother-in-law Baldur Oliver, sisters-in-law Bessie, and Edna Town.Doris was an optimistic and positive prairie woman, who never forgot her farm roots. Family meant everything to her, and she loved nothing more than a crowded table enjoying a feast prepared with love. Grandma’s buns were famous, as were her pies, and birthday chocolate roll. Doris was also a consummate gardener; her lupines and lilies continue to propagate in many family and friends’ yards. Many of Mrs. Town’s students remembered her fondly, years after they left school, but none more than her grade 7/8 all -girl class of 1945 from Dauphin, Manitoba, with whom she continued her friendship until her passing. She was a patron of the arts, member of the Historical Society, Canadian Club, countless Bridge Clubs, and the Prince Albert Outing Club. Doris was a kind and gentle woman of great faith and an active member of Wesley United Church for 58 years. The family would like to acknowledge the staff and residents of Pineview Terrace Lodge who provided love, compassion and excellent care, which allowed her to slip peacefully away. Her love and friendship will be dearly missed and cherished by all who knew her.
Memorial Service 11:00 a.m. at Gray’s Funeral Chapel 575 28th St. West, Prince Albert, Sk., Rev. Tony Thompson presiding. Friends so wishing may make donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association or Pineview Terrace Lodge.
