Doreen Dykeman
Doreen Dykeman,
of Hillsborough, passed away peacefully at The Moncton Hospital on
Sunday, February 4, 2018. Born in Weldon, she was the daughter of the
late George and Sara (Simmons) Steeves. She received her primary
education there and went to Steno/Business School in
Moncton.
She worked as a
« Code Writer » for the Royal Canadian Air Force at Moncton
Supply Depot during World War Two; then as an Administrative Secretary
for The Board of Transport Commissioners for investigating Railroad
accidents in Eastern Canada. She then worked for the Government of
Nova Scotia Protocol Office for arranging State Dinners and advising
in matters of protocol for opening sessions of the
House.
She attended St.
Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Moncton. She was a life
member of the Evelyn Eaton Mission Group at First Baptist Church in
Moncton and a life member of the Baptist Mission group in Weldon
Baptist Church.
She enjoyed
working with young people and did bible classes with them. She was a
good encourager and listener. Married to Dr. Winston Dykeman for 49
years, she learned the disciplines of late dinners, missed birthday
parties and interrupted social events. She ran the race with passion
and commitment. She finished well. Welcome home

Doreen will be
sadly missed by her husband, Dr. Winston R. Dykeman of Hillsborough;
sisters, Florence Cole and Juanita Robinson, both of Sackville and
many nieces, nephews and extended family members. In addition
to her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, John and
James.
Visitation will
be held at Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton
(858-1995) on Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. A Service
to celebrate and honour Doreen’s life will be held at St.
Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Hildegard Drive, on Wednesday,
February 7, 2018 at 11:00 am, with Rev. Dr. Martin Kreplin leading the
service. Reception in the Church Atrium following the service.
Interment will be in Fair Haven Memorial
Gardens.
