Donna
MacLeod
It is with heavy hearts that we, the family of Donna Marie
MacLeod, announce her passing on Saturday, July
7th, 2018, in the Palliative Care Unit at the
Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her husband and
loving family.
Born April 10th, 1950, Donna was the
daughter of the late Thomas and Lucella Mackie.
She is survived by her husband and best friend, George; her
two sons, Mackie (Alana), Sydney River, and Scott, Ottawa; and by her
three grandsons, Charlie, Liam and Marty, her pride and joy. She is
also survived by her sister, Marjorie Taylor (Tom Kelloway);
sister-in-law, Sonya (late Colin MacKenzie); brother-in-law, Wayne
(Judy); six nephews and one niece.
Donna was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Lucella
Mackie and by her parents-in-law, George and Peggy
MacLeod.
After attending Reserve District High, Donna was employed by
Jacobson’s Ladies Wear and later, at Oak Hall. Prior to her
retirement in 2012, Donna was employed for several years at Caper
Corner and the Bookstore at Cape Breton University and she was a past
member of the Sydney Curling Club. Donna enjoyed a Friday night out
with friends on weekends and fyamily time with loved ones. She loved
being outdoors. Warm, sunny days would find her tending to her many
flower gardens or working on a yard project. Donna liked to read and
knit, but mostly, she loved to spend time with her three
grandsons.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on
Tuesday, July 10th from 2-4 and 7-9. The
funeral service will be held Wednesday, July
11th at the United Heritage Church, 500
Charlotte St. at 3 p.m., with Reverend Rosemary Godin officiating.
Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in South Bar at a later
date.
The family would like to thank Dr. Archibald, the entire
staff of the Palliative of Care Unit, the VON, and the Cancer
Centre.
Donations in memory of Donna may be made to the Palliative
Care Unit at the CBRH.
