Obituary of Donald Schatte
SCHATTE: Donald (‘Don’) Kenneth –
A resident of Ridgetown, and formerly of London, St. Thomas, Simcoe and Wingham, ON, Don Schatte passed away peacefully at Riverview Gardens with his family at his side on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the age of 89.
Born in Chesley, ON, Don was the son of the late Gustav and Harriet (Saunders) Schatte.
Beloved husband of 67 years to Joyce (nee Horton).
Cherished father of Gary Schatte (Mary Ellen) of Chatham, Sherri Weese (Jim) of London, and the late Kimberly Pickell (2001).
Proud grandfather of Heather Dramnitzke (Branden), Shannon Alberi (Jonathan), Michael Schatte (Kirsten Gallagher), Zach Weese, and Haylee Weese (Andrew Garibaldi). Predeceased by his grandson Jordan Pickell (2011).
Great-grandfather of Blair and Harris Dramnitzke and Colin and Kaitlyn Alberi.
Predeceased by his brother Eric Schatte and his sister Gertrude Halloway.
Brother-in-law to Phyllis Bain, Ken Horton, Eleanor Campbell, Donna Johnston (Clarence), Janet Dallimore (William) and Sharon Douglas (Ron).
Predeceased by in-laws Marjorie Harkness (Robert), Walter Horton, Florence Stapleton (William), William Bain, Jean Horton, Ron Campbell and Cecil Horton.
Also missed by many nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family.
In his early adulthood, Don was a member of the Military Reserve.
He was most passionate about his family and their interests. In his spare time, he thoroughly enjoyed music, reading, crosswords, and solitaire.
In 1981, after many years of retail lumberyard management, Don started his own business retailing and installing windows and doors in Ridgetown and surrounding area.
Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 76 Main Street East, Ridgetown, on Thursday, January 25, 2018, from 2:00 – 4:00pm and 7:00 – 9:00pm. A Celebration of Don’s Life will be held at the Funeral Home at 1:00pm on Friday, January 26, 2018 with Rev. Judith Fayter officiating. Interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Ridgetown.
Donations made in memory of Don to the Alzheimer Society, Multiple Sclerosis Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
